Hunting for goblindust
We’re very fortunate in Washington to have a number of amazingly creative geocache creators. One of them, goblindust, is known for masterminding one of the world’s most favorited caches, located across the street from Geocaching HQ. But he does most of his gobbling over on Bainbridge Island and in Poulsbo and Silverdale. We joined fellow HQ’er nykkole for a Sunday filled with goblindust caches.
I don’t want to post too many photos, so as not to ruin the surprise for future finders. What I can say is I deposited a lot of favorite points during this day! The remarkable thing about goblindust hides is that they’re not just creative, but they’re also very different from cache to cache. Some renowned hiders become known for doing a certain “thing.” goblindust does multiple things extremely well.
So, here are the NINE caches that I slapped with a favorite point:
Full of Hot Air! – not at all what I was expecting. I’ve only seen something like this once before, on the east coast.
The contraption! – one of only two non-goblindust favorites on the day. It’s a pleasant 0.3 mile hike from parking. I won’t reveal the “contraption,” but it got a chuckle out of me.
Know Your Lackey – absolutely fantastic. My only wish is that my Lackey avatar was part of the cache!
Nickle Time – one of my favorite caches ever. Simply brilliant. Worth the five cents 😉
Proposal in Silverdale – the other non-goblindust favorite of the day. Fun Wherigo with a nice story.
Bingo with Darth Vador – goblindust does it again.
Wait Until DARK!! – the only thing better than a regular goblindust cache is a goblindust night cache.
I lost my Marbles! – again, just amazing. Worth the marble.
GOAT – we’re lucky nykkole was with us for this one. One of the tougher goblindust hides I’ve come across. Just as brilliant as the others.
Bottom line, any geocacher owes it to himself to spend at least a day in the Bainbridge Island / Poulsbo / Silverdale. It was certainly one of the most enjoyable geocaching days we’ve ever had.
